How We Move in 2025

We hope folks in our community are taking care and keeping safe. The reality is we are at a time when a change in presidential administration will have a long-standing impact on our communities, our organizations, and our efforts.

Trump’s "shock and awe" approach - an effort to divide our communities through chaos and confusion - has already caused harmful and demeaning effects on our immigrant, disabled, Black, queer, and transgender communities.

When our communities are under attack, what do we do?

We continue to show up for our communities. We ground in our values and grow our movements with intention. We gather and distribute information and resources. We tell our stories. We look out for one another. We connect and collaborate. We adapt as we go along. We do the work. We fight back.

Our mission remains the same and we will do all we can to be there for our people. But this isn't easy. We have had big transitions at AFIRE within the past year, too, and even the best-planned transitions are disruptive.

Thanks to the support of our community, however, we are confident we are moving in the right direction. We will continue to offer our Citizenship Support Program services, including monthly citizenship application preparation sessions and citizenship workshops held with our community partners. We will continue growing our Organizing Program, with community education at Seeding AFIRE, language reclamation in Tagalog 101, connecting our history and culture with the GoldenAgers, uplifting queer and trans Filipinx/a/o stories, and building numerous skills with our community leaders. We will continue mobilizing with our organizational and coalition partners for solutions that center our communities. We will also work to establish safety protocols that protect our community at our events, actions, and online.

Thank you for believing in our work and trusting us in these challenging times. We look forward to connecting with you again soon!
